Repairs to Gibbs Hill Lighthouse

Crane at Gibbs Hill

The Department of Marine and Ports Services is advising the public that crane operations will be taking place at Gibbs Hill Lighthouse on Monday, 20 October 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to facilitate the removal of the radar and essential repairs to the Lighthouse walkway/birdcage.

During this time, public access to the Gibbs Hill Lighthouse, its grounds, and the surrounding area will be closed to ensure the safety of both visitors and work crews. Safety barriers and signage will be installed, and on-site personnel will be present to manage the work zone and maintain public safety.

This work forms part of ongoing maintenance efforts to preserve and enhance the structural integrity and visitor safety of the historic Lighthouse facility. The Department anticipates that operations will be completed within the scheduled hours; however, should work finish ahead of time, the site will reopen earlier. In the event of adverse weather conditions, the crane operations will be rescheduled, and a revised notice will be issued.

Visitors are kindly asked to avoid the area during the closure and to follow all posted instructions and detour signage. Nearby businesses and public amenities not within the immediate Lighthouse grounds are expected to remain open and accessible.

The Department of Marine and Ports Services apologises for any inconvenience this temporary closure may cause and appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as we complete these important safety improvements.
