The Department of Education is proud to announce the return of the Spring into the Arts Festival, an annual celebration of student creativity, talent, and expression. Now in its 60th year, this beloved tradition continues to shine as a platform for public and private school students to showcase their musical, dance, drama, and visual arts talents.
This year's theme, "Expressions from our heARTS," reflects the vibrant spirit of the festival and the depth of emotion and creativity our students bring to the stage.
The Minister of Education, the Hon. Crystal C. Caesar, JP said: " I am pleased to acknowledge and celebrate the 60th year of Spring Into the Arts, highlighting and celebrating Bermuda's tremendously creative and talented students. The performance schedule for April and May will allow our community to see our students' music, dance, and theatrical performances."
The Commissioner of Education, Mrs. Kalmar Richards, shared: "All of us at the Department are extremely pleased that Spring into the Arts has reached this incredible milestone. I encourage everyone to make their way to Ruth Seaton James Auditorium and support our artists."
April is Jazz Appreciation Month, and this year's Senior Schools Showcase features dynamic performances from the Saltus Jazz Quartet, directed by Mr. Shine Hayward, as well as a special tribute to a legendary Bermudian jazz musician Maxwell Maybury. Those attending the West Family of Schools showcase will be treated to jazz performances from Dalton E. Tucker Primary, West End Primary, and Sandys Secondary Middle School students. There will also be a special presentation from Port Royal Primary in collaboration with local musician, Joy T. Barnum, recognizing Bermudian athletes and artists that have been influential in our community and inspirational to our students.
During International Arts Education Week (May 20–26), the East Family of Schools Showcase will pay tribute to a local arts educator, highlighting the impact of arts education in Bermuda. The culminating Central Family of Schools Showcase will include moving tributes to Gilbert Institute and Prospect Primary, as this will be their final year. Each showcase promises an unforgettable evening of music, dance, and theatrical performances, with different hosts each night bringing a unique flair to the stage.
Sponsors for this year's Spring into the Arts Festival are The Waterfront Group, The Phoenix Group Limited, Il Pomodoro, Grotto Bay Resort and the Departments of Culture, Communications, and Parks. All proceeds from ticket sales and raffles are reinvested into arts programs and resources at participating schools. Food and refreshments will also be available, with proceeds supporting educational programming.
