Updates House on Affordable Bermuda Agenda

Minister of Home Affairs Alexa Lightbourne today provided an update on the Government’s Affordable Bermuda Agenda, outlining key initiatives designed to ease cost-of-living pressures and strengthen community resilience.

The Minister emphasized that affordability requires a multi-pronged approach, combining innovation, collaboration, and legislative reform. Highlights of the update include:

  • Digital Currency Pilot: A program to reduce transaction fees and promote financial inclusion, featuring digital literacy training for 400 participants and a $50 Digital Relief Transfer.
  • Community Affordability Gardens: Parish-based gardens, starting in Devonshire, to help families lower grocery costs while fostering community engagement.
  • Legislative Review & Consumer Education: Modernizing import-related laws and empowering consumers through practical cost-saving tips.

“These initiatives represent the foundation of a modern, Bermudian-led affordability ecosystem,” said Minister Lightbourne. “Our goal is fairness, resilience, and shared prosperity.”
