The Premier of Bermuda, the Hon. E. David Burt, JP, MP, travelled to Montego Bay, Jamaica, from 6–9 July 2025 to attend the Forty-Ninth Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) under the chairmanship of Jamaica’s Prime Minister, the Most Honourable Andrew Holness.
Premier Burt led Bermuda’s delegation, which included the Minister of Home Affairs, the Hon. Alexa Lightbourne, JP, MP, and MP Christopher Famous. The opening ceremony featured remarks by outgoing Chair Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley of Barbados, and Heads of Government discussed an aggressive agenda that included regional security, the humanitarian crisis in Haiti, regional transport, and telecommunications.
Bermuda, an Associate Member of CARICOM since 2003, advanced discussions on our island’s pathway toward full membership. With the Conference’s support, CARICOM Secretariat technical and legal advisors will provide initial considerations on terms and conditions for Bermuda’s proposed membership. This will inform fact-based public consultation with the people of Bermuda and the next steps in the process.
The Premier returned to Bermuda on 9 July.
