WARSAW, Poland — The Premier, the Hon David Burt, JP, MP, and the Bermuda delegation continued their engagement yesterday as part of their official attendance at the Eurofi Conference in Poland.

The public will be aware that Premier Burt is leading a delegation of Bermuda Government officials and representatives from the Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) to Europe for official business meetings.

Day two of the high-level meetings began with a productive engagement with Mr. Shigeru Ariizumi, Chair of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS), and IAIS Secretary General Mr. Jonathan Dixon.

The IAIS leadership commended the Bermuda Monetary Authority’s (BMA) consistent engagement and meaningful contributions within the international regulatory community.

During the occasion, the Premier reiterated Bermuda’s commitment to maintaining the highest regulatory standards and preserving our standing as a premier international financial centre.

The Bermuda delegation then visited the Polish Ministry of Finance for a meeting with Mr. Jarosław Neneman, Undersecretary of State responsible for international tax matters. The discussions focused on Bermuda’s insurance regulatory regime, with Polish officials expressing interest in learning from Bermuda’s experience in insurance regulation. 

The Premier confirmed Bermuda’s willingness to share its expertise and to foster closer economic ties with one of Europe’s fastest-growing economies.

Later in the day, Premier Burt met with Ms. Maria Luís Albuquerque, European Commissioner for Financial Stability, Financial Services and the Capital Markets Union.

Premier Burt welcomed the Commissioner to her new role and spoke about the Government’s past engagements with her predecessors. The Commissioner and her team highly commended Bermuda’s work in strengthening Bermuda’s anti-money laundering framework and maintaining robust insurance regulation. 

Speaking after these engagements, Premier Burt said, “Bermuda continues to demonstrate that a small jurisdiction can lead on the global stage by upholding high standards of regulation, transparency, and international cooperation. These meetings in Warsaw reaffirmed the strong relationships we have built and are continuing to build with Government officials, EU Commissioners, key regulators, and industry leaders.

Our commitment remains clear: to promote Bermuda’s economic interests while enhancing our reputation as a well-regulated international financial centre.”

It should be noted that during this week's European visit, Premier Burt is joined by the Financial Secretary Chidozie Ofoego, and supported by the Head of European Affairs & Policy, Aliyyah Ahad and Sierra Bell, Policy Advisor, Internation Affairs and Regulatory Unit, Ministry of Finance.

Premier Burt is scheduled to return to Bermuda on April 15.
