Premier meets with Ireland's Finance Minister

WARSAW, Poland — In their final official engagement in Poland, Premier, the Hon. David Burt, JP, MP, and the Bermuda delegation met with Paschal Donohoe, Minister of Finance for Ireland.
The meeting concluded a successful series of high-level discussions held on the margins of the Eurofi Financial Forum.
Premier Burt and Minister Donohoe engaged in a wide-ranging dialogue focused on the economic similarities between Bermuda and Ireland and discussed how our two jurisdictions can deepen cooperation amid increasing global economic uncertainty.
Minister Donohoe commended the ongoing technical collaboration between the Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) and the Central Bank of Ireland, particularly in the insurance sector. Both sides acknowledged the value of continued regulator-to-regulator engagement in insurance as well as digital finance.
Speaking after the meeting, Premier Burt said, “It was great to conclude our time in Poland with a meeting with Minister Donohoe, following my meeting with his team at the Ministry of Finance during my visit to Dublin in September.
“Ireland and Bermuda share many economic similarities, and our dialogue today reinforced the importance of deeper cooperation between our jurisdictions. As small yet globally connected financial centres, we have much to gain from continuing our collaboration, particularly in insurance and digital finance. I look forward to continued engagement with the Minister and Ministry of Finance of Ireland.”
The Premier continued, “The success of this visit, including the Government and Bermuda Monetary Authority’s participation in the Eurofi Financial Forum and the valuable meetings in Warsaw, is thanks to the hard work of the Government Bermuda’s Brussels Office, led by Head of European Affairs & Policy, Ms Aliyyah Ahad. It highlights the value of continued international engagement and the importance of having dedicated overseas representation.”
The public will be aware that Premier Burt is currently leading a delegation of Bermuda Government officials and representatives from the Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) to Europe for official business meetings.
Premier Burt now travels to London to continue his official meetings with UK stakeholders before returning to Bermuda on April 15.
