Ministry Encourages Water Conservation and Advanced Planning Amid Dry Conditions

As Bermuda is experiencing a prolonged stretch of dry weather, the Ministry of Public Works and Environment encourages residents to monitor their household water supplies and take simple, proactive steps to conserve water.

Most homes across the Island rely on rainwater to fill their tanks. During the summer, when rainfall is typically less frequent, water supplies can run low, leading to increased demand for Public Drinking Water Supply Systems and private water trucking services.

 Minister of Public Works and Environment, the Hon. Jache Adams, JP, MP, stated: “As we navigate a dry stretch this summer, we want to ensure residents are thinking ahead. Now is the time to check your water situation and make sensible choices.

 “This is not about alarm. This is about preparation. A bit of planning today can prevent unnecessary disruption tomorrow."

The Ministry is advising the public to:

  • Check water tank levels regularly;
  • Place water orders early to avoid delays during peak demand;
  • Avoid ordering more than is necessary;
  • Inspect water tanks and plumbing fixtures routinely;
  • Repair any leaks quickly to prevent loss of stored water;
  • Use a bucket, not a hose, to wash vehicles;
  • Take short showers instead of full baths;
  • Avoid letting taps or hoses run unnecessarily;
  • Reuse rinse water for non-potable uses like watering plants;
  • Trim overhanging trees to help keep tanks clean and free of debris.

By planning ahead and using water responsibly, residents can help ease the pressure on water trucking services and ensure their homes remain supplied throughout the dry period.

The Ministry would like to thank the public for their cooperation.
