EMO Monitoring Tropical Storm Erin; Residents Encouraged to Stay Prepared

The Ministry of National Security advises that the Emergency Measures Organisation (EMO) is closely monitoring the movements and projected path of Tropical Storm Erin in the Atlantic Ocean.
As of today's noon advisory, the Bermuda Weather Service (BWS) reported that Tropical Storm Erin was just over 1,500 nautical miles to the east-south-east of Bermuda, moving west at 15 knots.
Current projections indicate the system may move closer to Bermuda’s general area in the next few days.
The BWS has advised that Tropical Storm Erin is not considered a threat to Bermuda at this time. The Ministry stresses that the BWS is the official source of weather information for Bermuda, and all decisions by the EMO are based on BWS updates.
Residents are reminded to rely on the BWS website at www.weather.bm and the official BWS Facebook page, “Bermuda Weather Service,” for accurate and timely updates.
Minister of National Security Michael Weeks said: “While the current forecast does not indicate a threat to Bermuda, this is a good opportunity for residents to ensure they are prepared should the need arise."
“The EMO will continue to monitor Tropical Storm Erin closely and provide updates to the public as necessary.
“Preparation is a year-round responsibility during hurricane season and includes ensuring your home is secure, maintaining readily accessible essential supplies, and having a battery-powered radio available.
“In the event of an emergency, the 100.1 FM Emergency Broadcast Station will be activated on the order of the EMO Chairman.”
Residents are encouraged to use this time to check their household preparedness plans, restock hurricane kits, and review preparedness guidance available on the Government Portal.
A complete kit should include non-perishable food, water, essential medicines, flashlights, spare batteries, and a battery-powered radio.
The public will be updated by the Ministry of National Security if there are any significant changes to Tropical Storm Erin’s forecast track or intensity.
